I am a self-taught astrologer, most of the material I have studied being in the tradition of Psychological Astrology. Early on I read books by Sue Merlyn Farebrother and Clare Martin, and attended a small monthly astrology gathering organised by Zoe Hind, all of which I am very grateful for. I am also currently studying towards a certification in Evolutionary Astrology through the school of Deva Green.
I have B.A. degrees in Classics and Fine Art, and spent part of my studies living in Italy. I also have Reiki level 2, which I practise on friends and family, and continue to enjoy my language studies. As well as my private practice, I also give readings for Sanctuary, an app which provides live astrology, Tarot and psychic services.
My spiritual journey has brought me to various forms of Buddhist and Christian meditation, the message of Nonduality, and increasingly the teachings of the Western mystery tradition. I am continuously learning, and I find it important to continue going for astrology and Tarot readings myself to gain outside perspective on my life. I would love to share with you anything that has helped me, if it means making your journey more peaceful.
My favourite aspect of astrology is timing. The Greeks had a word kairos which meant "The Right Moment." If you are going through a challenging time, it can be very reassuring to find out what the likely lesson being learned is, and also to be given a timeframe for that lesson.
Conversely, it is great to know when windows of opportunity are opening up, so that you can exploit them to the full! One thing astrology is certainly not is prediction. Planetary energies give you an invitation towards a certain direction, but it is always up to you how you take that on. I always put you firmly at the centre of your own destiny.
I love patterns. Whenever I have studied a language, analysed a text, drawn someone's portrait, or pulled up their chart, the driving enthusiasm has been to discern the underlying structure, and extract forms and shapes that I perceive. Astrology is the only language I know that allows me to marry my love of the analytical with the intuitive. When I prepare a chart, I make a ritual of it, starting with the fundaments, e.g. elements and modes, and working down to ever greater detail.
As part of this process glyphs, angles and degrees slowly become animated and turn into a dynamic, complex psychological portrait, with all the tensions, contradictions and talents inherent in an any human being. It is important to state that while there is a lot I can see from a chart, there is also a lot I cannot. If we were to look at a chart with no time or date we would have no idea when the person lived, which gender they were, and what their socio-economic circumstances were.
Tarot is something that took me a while to warm to. I loved the fact that there was a science behind astrology, and found it hard to accept that the pulling of cards could tell me anything of value. But time and time again I would come out of Tarot readings bewildered by their accuracy, and with a sense of having experienced magic first-hand.
I now honour this as an another, more intuitive tool I can use, and especially if you are visually-minded this can be a wonderful way to explore a theme from a more abstract, archetypal stance.
